History The Hague
The Hague has turned to be the third largest city in Holland after Amsterdam and Rotterdam, with a population of 475.580 people.
The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and also of more than 150 international institutions as a result of its rich legacy in international politics.
Some of the tourist attractions you can visit in The Hague are the Binnenhof and Medieval Ridderzaal, which now contains the Houses of Parliament and government offices, The Paleis Noordeinde, which is the official work palace of the Queen since 1984, and the Mauritshuis museum, where many paintings by Dutch masters are exhibited.

By plane
As there is no airport in The Hague, you can fly to these other destinations in the Netherlands.

By train
There is a direct train connection from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to The Hague. The train leaves each 30 minutes more or less, and every hour at night and it takes around 40 minutes to arrive there.

The nearest airport to The Hague is Rotterdam airport, but it is not so reachable by public transport as there is no direct train connection. One possibility is to go by bus (Nr. 33) to the centre of the city where you can find the main train station.

If you decide to travel by car, you have the following routes:
A4 connects the city of Amsterdam with The Hague
A12 runs to Utrecht and the German border
A13 runs to Rotterdam and connects to motorways towards the Belgian border.

Public transportation in The Hague
'Nationale Strippenkaart'
The easiest way to travel in the city is by buying the 15 or 45 Strippenkaart before getting on the bus. This ticket is sold at all post offices, tobacconist and bookshops of the city. There is also the possibility to buy one ticket containing 2 or 3 strips from the driver. The Strippenkaart is also valid on regional busses and local trains.Two strips are the basic fare for every journey, but you are supposed to add one strip for every zone you cross. As The Hague is divided in two zones, one fare will be three stripes. You can also of course buy a day pass which allows you to unlimited travel 24 hours across all zones.
